Public Hearing on Water Rates - July 28th. ALL residents are encouraged to attend the Town of Leesburg's Public Hearing on Tuesday, July 28 at 7:30 at Town Hall at 25 W. Market St (near Tally Ho). We need to make our opinions heard by the Town Council on or before July 28 by submitting emails to the Town Council via council@leesburgva.gov or by speaking in person at the public hearing. We need to tell the Town Council that the proposed rates are still unfair, unreasonable and inequitable. We need to tell them to stop violating the law.
The Town Council is proposing a new rate structure with increases over the current rates, which will affect both the in town and out of town residents. The Town Attorney filed a petition to appeal the water-sewer rate case (which we won several months ago) as part of their two-track response to the April 17, 2009 Circuit Court order. The other "track" is the rate adjustment activity that is now taking place in private, by the town council at their work sessions. These rates will be discussed at the public meeting next Tuesday and finalized August 11 - in time to meet the September 1 date when the Town can no longer enforce its current rate schedule.
Additional information and contacts are posted at www.fairwaterrates.com. In our opinion, the Town's out-of- town rate proposal does not comply with the court order, because it is not consistent with the findings of the Court in the water rate case. It is important that we have as many residents as possible attend this public hearing, even if you do not plan to speak, please attend to show your support!
